Three Georgia residents who were allegedly robbed and kidnapped on Sunday claim therobber told them that he needed the money for his grandmother’s surgery.

The victim told Channel 2 News that he was headed out with two friends on Sunday night when they stopped at a park to make sure he had his keys.

According to the victim, that’s when an assailant with a gun ran up to the vehicle and demanded money.

“(He) pointed the gun on the window, ‘Everybody needs to get out of the car give us the money you have,’” the victim said.

When the alleged robber found the victims had only $80 between them, he demanded that everyone get back in the car and head to a Bank of America ATM.

The suspect, 22 year old Melvin Bynum, reportedly told the victims that he needed $200.

“He had his gun on his lap, pulled out his Taser and said, ‘I could have did this’ (and) zapped a Taser in the car show us it worked,” the victim claimed.

The victim claims he sat in the backseat as Bynum threatened the group as they headed to the ATM.

“It was really nerve-wracking, especially with him just centimeters away from me,” the victim said. “Any moment he could pull the trigger and it would be over for me.”

The suspect reportedly told the group he would open fire if police were called.

“If the police were called he was to start squeezing meaning he was going to start shooting in the car,” he said. “He would have a shootout with police if it comes to that.”

Then the victim says the suspect revealed that they both had a religious connection.

“We ended up on the topic of church (and) he went to the same church as me, which is crazy,” the victim said, adding, “(He said) his grandmother had breast cancer she needed some type of surgery.”

The victim didn’t buy the surgery story, but says they were able to convince the suspect to take them to a Waffle House to use the bathroom. One friend who was left behind in the car called 911 and the suspect was arrested.
