Kidd Pyrex fuses old-school sound with
new-school vibes for unique new take on hip-hop
QUEENS, NY – Nechemiah Duggins is a guy who has never felt affected by heat – by pressure from others, or stresses of school or work or life. He’s a cool customer. He likens himself to the type of dishware known as Pyrex, which is heat-resistant and is nearly impossible to break. And so it should come as no surprise that he has adopted the stage name Kidd Pyrex as he pursues a career as a professional musician.
Hailing from Queens, New York, Kidd Pyrex is an artist who’s ahead of his time. Taking inspiration from some of the legends of hip-hop and R&B – such as Curtis Mayfield, Anita Baker, Luther Vandross and Michael Jackson – he blends those classic sounds with modern-day moods to create a unique sound and style that’s unlike anything else out there.
“I have a super-diverse style that covers multiple genres and sub-genres,” he said. “I can bring different feels based off the samples I hear or the tones that are presented to me. There are so many influences that have put me in the position that I’m at today, and I try to modernize those things with the sounds I hear from today. When you put that all together, you get real music that’s genuine and straight from me.”
His most recent release is an EP released Jan. 26 called “Weekend Vibes Vol. 1.” It’s a compilation of seven songs that he said flow perfectly together for a vibe that is all about celebrating the weekend – from parties to hanging with friends to the various recreational activities that come in the wee hours of the morning.
The debut single from the project is a song called “More Than a Kill,” which he said has anupbeat vibe underneath lyrics that talk about how girls should be considered more than just a fling or a one-night-stand.
“People want to feel closer instead of feeling so apart all the time, and this song explores that idea,” he said. “Ultimately I want to be an artist who is known for being genuine. I’m creating music and writing lyrics that feel good to sing or say. My music is inspiring, but not playground or church music or Gospel. It’s just positive vibes and good music, and with every song you get a different feel and a different view that can connect to lots of different people.”
